What competence should you ask a DHA provider to demonstrate?
Ask who will lead and technically review the work, not only which company logo appears on the proposal. Request examples of experience with the facility's material family and processes, the current standard edition, the planned analysis method, and how laboratory data, field observations, and engineering decisions are handled.
Professional registration, laboratory accreditation, or a certification can be relevant to a particular task, but none is a universal substitute for a competent project team and a complete written scope. Verify every credential with the issuing body.
How do you compare proposals that look different?
Normalize the scope before comparing totals. Count process units and collection systems; list required site days, document review, sampling, laboratory tests, scenario workshops, calculations, draft review, final deliverable, and travel. Note exclusions and owner-supplied inputs.
A proposal for selected equipment is not directly comparable with a site-wide DHA. Ask each provider to identify assumptions and the price or schedule consequence if records are missing or testing is required.
How does DustDHA build and order profiles?
Profiles use nominative public information from each firm's own website and other identified source records. Claim status means the business-domain contact has verified control of the profile; it is not an endorsement. The directory does not publish customer ratings because there is no verified review dataset.
Search and filters are utility controls, not quality rankings. Sponsored placement is not mixed into the neutral list. Providers can request a factual correction, and material claims should retain a source and verification date.
What happens when you submit one RFQ?
The intake captures service, industry, state, facility size, timeline, budget authority, and the reason for the work. A public scoring rubric screens fit. Qualified requests can be delivered to no more than three matching providers, and the searcher chooses whom to engage.
DustDHA is the routing layer, not the engineer. Provider contracts, confidentiality, technical scope, site access, deliverables, and fees are agreed directly between the facility and provider.
Who should be named as technically responsible for the work?
A proposal should identify the person or role leading the analysis, who performs fieldwork and workshops, who reviews technical conclusions, and who approves the deliverable. Ask about relevant experience with the facility's particulate, process, protection systems, and current standards. Company scale or a broad service list does not answer who will work on the project.
Credentials and registrations can be relevant to particular tasks or jurisdictions, but verify them with the issuing body and connect them to the promised scope. DustDHA republishes only sourced provider claims and does not certify competence. The buyer must evaluate the proposed team, references it obtains directly, conflicts, insurance, and contractual responsibility.
Which scope fields make consultant proposals comparable?
Give every bidder the same facility list, materials, process units, collection systems, prior reports, known changes, available tests, requested deliverables, and target schedule. Ask each to return an inclusion matrix: document review, site days, interviews, scenario method, workshops, sampling, laboratory coordination, calculations, draft review, final report, recommendation format, travel, and optional engineering.
Make exclusions and owner-supplied inputs explicit. A limited assessment of selected equipment may be valid, but it should not be compared as if it were a site-wide DHA. The comparison should show technical scope and commercial terms side by side, not reduce unlike work to a single total.
When should laboratory capability influence provider selection?
Laboratory capability matters when the project needs representative material characterization, but the buyer should separate three questions: who defines the testing need, who performs the test, and who interprets the result for the facility. A consultant may use an internal lab, coordinate an independent lab, or rely on current owner data. Each model can work when responsibilities, methods, sample preparation, quality controls, and conflicts are clear.
Verify laboratory claims from the provider or lab's current site and, where accreditation is relevant, the accrediting body's scope. Do not assume an accreditation covers every method advertised. DustDHA does not rank labs and does not populate material values from a restricted third-party database.
What deliverable details should be agreed before award?
Define the report structure and supporting records before work begins. Useful commitments include a scope and input register, field observations, method description, scenario or hazard record, assumptions and data gaps, existing-safeguard treatment, recommendations, action priorities or categories, drawings or appendices, source edition, draft comment cycle, and final issue format. Clarify whether calculations, protection design, code review, or implementation engineering are included.
Agree how confidential information will be handled and who owns or may reuse the deliverable. Ask what happens when field conditions or missing data expand the scope. A clear change process protects both sides and makes timing and fees less dependent on informal expectations.
How should independence and commercial conflicts be discussed?
Ask whether the firm sells equipment, laboratory work, implementation engineering, or other services that may follow from its recommendations. Those services are not automatically a problem; undisclosed incentives and unclear option boundaries are. Request a conflict statement and ask the provider to distinguish required analysis from optional downstream work.
DustDHA's directory uses no pay-to-rank quality order and contains no invented ratings. Its own business model is disclosed: after an initial free period, providers may pay for qualified introductions. Searchers never pay DustDHA, and the engineering contract remains directly between the buyer and chosen provider.
Which project controls reduce schedule surprises?
Name an owner and provider project lead, then agree milestones for inputs, site access, sampling, workshops, draft, factual comments, technical decisions, and final issue. Identify dependencies such as shutdown access, drawing updates, confidentiality review, laboratory turnaround, travel, and availability of operations staff. Ask how delays or discovered scope changes are communicated.
Do not treat a promised report date as complete risk management. The facility remains responsible for current operations and should address urgent findings with qualified advisers through its existing safety systems. DustDHA does not supervise the engagement or guarantee provider availability; its structured RFQ is designed to surface these dependencies earlier.
How should references and past-project evidence be checked?
Request relevant examples or references directly from the provider, subject to confidentiality. Focus on similarity of material, process, facility complexity, deliverable, and team rather than a recognizable client name. Confirm which proposed team members performed the cited work and what scope the reference can discuss.
A public case study is a provider-owned claim, not independent proof of quality. Directory profiles link to their sources and show a verification date so buyers can inspect the claim. DustDHA does not convert marketing copy into a rating or imply client endorsement.
What should happen after the consultant is selected?
Hold a kickoff that confirms the facility boundary, materials, operating modes, current standard, authority questions, input register, field plan, responsibilities, communication, confidentiality, change control, and deliverables. Give operations, maintenance, engineering, and EHS a shared understanding of what the provider will and will not decide.
Track requests and assumptions during the project. Review the draft for factual accuracy without pressuring the provider toward a preferred technical conclusion. At final issue, assign recommendations, preserve source and calculation records, and connect future changes to the DHA. Provider selection is the start of the evidence chain, not the end.
How should commercial terms protect a clear technical scope?
The agreement should connect fees and milestones to the written scope, input responsibilities, access, deliverables, review rounds, travel, changes, and cancellation terms. Clarify invoicing, taxes, confidentiality, intellectual property, data retention, insurance, limitation provisions, and who may authorize added work. Commercial language should not contradict the technical proposal.
Have appropriate procurement, technical, and legal reviewers evaluate the contract for the facility. DustDHA is not a party to the engineering agreement and does not negotiate it. The introduction fee paid by a participating provider does not change the buyer's duty to assess scope, competence, conflicts, and terms independently.
